Ali G and the Chamber of Secrets
Word from: Mordy

"Probing prejudice is a motif for Mr. Baron Cohen, who is an observant Jew. In an episode broadcast on HBO last year, Borat's open-mic night performance at a Tucson bar inspired patrons to join in a chorus of 'Throw the Jew down the well!'"

So says NY Times in a recent article about Ali G. Question? Does anyone proofread this stuff?

Also, got this in my email box:

"Please visit JEW, a chapter a week." Seems to be the first blog-online-installment-Jewish-book. I'm not sure if there is any significance in it.

And check out the upcoming The Complete New Yorker. It will have every issue of New Yorker on it in the magazine's first 80 years. I'm totally getting that.

there's nothing wrong with the nytimes article. all the facts are correct, at least concerning
the hbo episode with the song in question. are you taking issue with the times' description of mr. cohen as "observant?" I know he speaks fluent hebrew, but I can't attest to his level of halachic practice. do you expect the times to fact check on the basis of halacha?

Sacha Baron Cohen is observant by British standards-where most Jews attend Orthodox synagogues, but in some areas might park their car a few blocks away and walk. Just google his name and synagogue or youth group and a lot of information will pop up.

A friend of mine saw Cohen duchening and doing 'birkat kohanim' in shul on Rosh HaShana. 'Nuff said.
