How to Date a Jewish Boy: We Love Food
Word from: Mordy

Overheard in New York: Always funny. Particularly when it's specifically about Jews, but I suppose that's due to my personal prejudice. The Village Voice writes about psychogeography and the L eruv in Lower East Side. Personally, I love Green Map's efforts in recontextualizing New York.

An article in Haaretz gives advice on finding a Jewish boyfriend for Jewish Girls. Possibly as a counterpoint to Boy Vey: The Shiksa's Guide to Dating Jewish Men. I read the second today, which was a surprisingly well-written book considering what I was expecting. (What was I expecting? Actually, something more like Hold My Gold : A White Girl's Guide to the Hip-Hop World. Which this thankfully wasn't.)

Plus, Fred Kaplan discusses John Zorn's Masadah series/brand. And I'm obsessively listening to the new Charming Hostess album from Jewlia Eisenberg and Tzadik. A.J. Goldmann writes a great article about Kubrick's vision for a movie about the Holocaust. Not to trade gossip (I'll admit. Yes. To trade gossip.) He added the last 'n' to his name... possibly to be as avant-garde as Kubrick himself. Ditto the initials in the name.

Beyond Black by Hilary Mantel is one of the better books I've read in awhile. I want to plug it incessantly. Instead of doing that though (and annoying everyone still reading this post) I'll just say that the book is amazing, and though it doesn't deal with Jewish topics, it does deal with Mediums and the Afterworld. Which is interesting, because Boy Vey says that Jews don't believe in the afterlife...

I also LOVE Charming Hostess. I particuarly love Masada and pretty much all of the Tzadik RJC stuff. I have a radio show in CT (called Radical Jewish Culture, actually) where i play mostly that stuff. It's klezmer and jewish jazz and stuff like that. I love your blog! Sometimes I announce stuff from in on the show. (i also have a blog about culture/stupidity/idiots that come in my video store www.mediawave.blogspot.com) but anyway not ot self promote check out the show on www.wvof.org. Anyway keep up the awesome blog, someone had to have one!
