Picking at my Scab of Jewish Identity
Word from: Shlomo

This is an old sketch, but I still find that I can't let this stuff go.
Does it make YOU uncomfortable?
Today, it's kinda making me uncomfortable also. Orthodoxy can be a noxious, infectious meme, just as its sparring partner iconoclasm. Suddenly bridges and truces you didnt even know you'd construncted have crumbled. Thank G-d for the stabilizing effects of irony.
But timeless and timely. I like that Alieza. (Of course my contribution to the blog is going to be an exception to any conversation about the Approach of the blog.)
...So who likes stickers?
Jake asked me to work on sticker designs for the blog/website. I started some stream of consiousness sketching, and ended up with an image of a ladder coming out of a person's insides. I thought it was worthy because the ladder fits into jewish iconography, but isnt owned by it exclusively. So then I did a VERY minimilastic interpretation (my scanner wasnt available) on the computer. What do you guys think? its actually gotta be in black and red.

Shlomo,
I really, really, really like the sketch. REALLY.(Though in general the word alluring makes me think of estee lauder ads and not the fascinating world of Temurah). The left "abstract guy" almost looks a little like a blat gemara himself which I thought kind of made the whole thing the ultimate shtuch. The sticker looks a little like the ladder is sticking him in the guts and flying away like a hit and run, but I bet the real thing looks a lot better and a lot less violent. Why don't we just have a sticker that says "honk if you love Jewish Art!" with a duck with payes and a streimel and our website on the bottom? Why does everything we do have to be so dang cerebral?
If I were VArts guy things would be a lot different around here.
