Sketchbook: FREE ART!
Word from: Shlomo

I'm just kind of curious... I've heard that there a lot more lurkers hanging out here than actually comment. So I had a silly idea: feel free to post an interpretation of the following image, or write a poem to accompany it, and I will subsequently choose the one I like the best and send them the actual drawing. Pretty simple. If it turns out to be fun, I'll do it again. I've got a lot of sketches--I dont mind parting with a couple.

Fine print: All responses must be posted to the blog by tuesday night, next week. Although I would love to hear from all the members of the mimaamakim staff, you guys are inelegible to win. So sorry, but post if u got something to say.

"Jeremy found that the Shalshelat was very real."

Oh, what? First I can't win the NewYorker cartoon contest, and now I can't win the Mimaamakim contest? Where, oh where is the justice?

My Poem: (Note the acronym - TORAH OR)

    Totally engrossed in its study,
    One with the ancient text,
    Reaching to find a message;
    Although without a mouth,
    Half a body and

    One non-existent right ear,
    Rabbinics appears a mistake.

That last poem was written by me, Higher and Higher. I was going to remain anonymous, but then decided not to.

Not entering the contest or anything. I'm just a nameless (extremely nameless) who cant refrain from throwing down a few lines.

Before the ghost busters hit the scene
God let bless next to the Baal Koreh Casper
    He's the once-rejected metonymy of me -
    Anonymous and abstract bastard.

Me, I begged for eyes & colors, and so, turned
Into a royal shoulder bag stuffed with a corgie,
A spliff-mama rolled by the dreadlocked ward,
    And any old potato/onion/cheese pierogy.

1 ineligible post/rant, and two anonymous posts. I think these posts were pretty cool and (Awesome!) I get to keep my drawing.
Mordy: are you on the New Yorker staff too? So... Jeremy found the shalsheles so real that he falls into its depths? Interestingly elliptical.
I like how both of the anonymous posters commented on the concept of the drawing--its interesting how they took the concept in different directions. I intuited that vagueness and wanted to give viewers leeway to interpret the drawing in multiple ways. I also like how everybody has brought a sense of humor to the crudeness of the drawing, even while interpreting the concept.
    thanks!
