Collage Craze
Word from: Jake

Looking at Shlomo's piece below, it dawned on me that much of his work, aside from the comics-like, fantasy-cartoon quality, also has a lot to do with collages. I generally think of collages as something you do in Photoshop - but in a sense, any conjecture of curiously positioned frames could be called a collage. I think. But as far as Photoshop goes, for all of you crazy collage-makers, NYPL has recently opened the DigitalGallery, an amazing online collection of antique imagery. If you go into the html-only version, you can grab the jpg's (low-res, but still!) I randomly checked out the Sabbaths section - not exactly what you'd expect. I also checked out the Jews (of course), and then there's Jerusalem which has a TON of goods. This photo here is called the "Argument in the Jewish Neighborhood," probably talking politics and rising prices. Would be interesting to transpose this piece with something contemporary.
